The Doctor

What profession would you choose

that you'd want your child to be?

If you thought of a physician,

that's one of the top three.

.

Why do we place our Doctors

in such very high esteem....

as though they can keep us well enough

to accomplish all our dreams.

.

The day has come and now there's pain

and a symptom that is new.

But your trust is in the Doctor

who should know just what to do.

.

You suspect it might be serious,

so you ask just who's the best.

You've done your research, have a name

and rejected all the rest.

.

You meet him at the hospital

and he's not what you expect.

But you know he's a top Oncologist,

and that you do respect.

.

He chats with you at first,

but doesn't waste his words.

You chalk that up to brilliance

and for a moment you're encouraged.

.

He checks you over from head to toe

and then you are x-rayed.

You're poked and scanned and drained

of blood, then wait for several days.

.

I think sometimes we're lucky.....

But seems this time we're not.

Our brilliant group of Doctors

haven't a clue just what you've got.

There once was a pedestal

that Doctors stood above.

Now I'm kicking it from under them

and following it with a shove!
