A Good Neighbour
.
Life in the city is busy;
each day we rush here and rush there.
We seldom notice our neighbours
and sadly, we often don't care.
.
One day a neighbour came over.
Said 'I'm Ken' and stopped by for a while.
He seemed friendly, quiet and caring,
so we paused as we chatted and smiled.
.
Now my hubby and Ken like to talk,
solving world problems out in the lane.
I quietly move from their way
when same issues are solved yet again.
.
In the summer Ken often comes by
carrying buckets of grapes that are sweet.
They're a gift from him to our home
and they're relished each day as a treat.
.
During one of their chats in the lane,
my hubby told Ken he'd been ill.
Now our neighbour looks after his own home,
but keeps an eye out on our house as well.
.
He noted one day that our back gate,
wouldn't open or close as it should.
Without saying a word he just fixed it;
now the gate works and looks really good.
.
We live in a city that's busy;
each day we rush here and rush there.
But a neighbour like Ken takes a moment,
to get to know you and show that he cares.
