The Mystery of Oneness
I feel that I am missing something. Pieces to a puzzle that I would like to find, yet I recognize they may be part of the 'mystery' of the Trinity and therefore elusive or beyond my scope of reasoning. I don't know. If nothing is explained about a subject in God's Word, I accept it as a mystery. But, if it is written for me to read, then I feel it is ok to ask for some understanding or clarity. Am I wrong?
In my earlier blog I am questioning the Oneness of Jesus and God. I am not denying it, because the Bible says it is true, but I am questioning the workings of it in my mind. I can accept a mystery, but sometimes things have to to be understood to some degree and I am lost in my understanding of this.
I wrote of the differences I noticed between God and Jesus. It was, I admit, a basic viewpoint with only a few examples noted. I left out flooding the earth in Noah's day which was to me, the ultimate 'kicker' of punishments.
In a nutshell, I found God to be 'harsher' than Jesus and wondered why this appeared to be so. In fairness, I could also have provided examples showing God's love in the Old Testament and alternatively the words of Jesus regarding punishment in the New. However, I wrote from a basic feeling that they are recorded as one, yet seem different.
Is Jesus the 'Man' one with God, but not God as a man? Does that make sense in any way? If it is heresy to the umpth degree, I am sorry, but I am searching for answers.
I'll present some scriptures.....
Matthew 26:9 " Oh my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou will.
Mark 14:36 "Abba Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou will.
John 5:30 "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just, because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which has sent me."
John 6:38 "For I came down from heaven not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me."
Jesus was completely obedient to the will of his Father, but it was not His own will. If they are One, you would assume they would share the same will.
Romans 8:34 "Jesus ....is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us."
Why does Jesus have to intercede for us if ..."....you have seen the Father you have seen me."
.
I'm afraid it is still a mystery to me and the more I look to find an answer, the more of a mystery it becomes. I am thankful for the things I know, so that I can remain trusting that at some point I will understand the things I do not know.
