.
At six in the morning
I picked up Linda, my friend.
Plans had been made
for the weekend we'd spend.
.
We drove down to Oregon
eating 'clean' snacks for the road.
But she slipped in some cheese that
wasn't clean I was told.
.
We made it to Portland
in very good time.
and before visiting her niece,
I picked up some wine.
.
We said our goodbyes....then
found the B&B we'd reserved
It was a Victorian mansion...
regally elegant, we observed.
.
We took our bags from the car
then knocked on the door.
There stood Dusty, then
Steve....happy owners...
for sure!
.
I had cash in my wallet
so there was nothing to sign.
Linda needed a credit card,
so it's in her name,
not mine.
.
Well, Linda soon learned if
room damage was done....
she was responsible, even if
I was the one!
.
We toured our new home
then walked to our suite.
After unloading our bags
a bit of wine seemed a treat.
.
Now Linda's my friend, and
I wanted to be careful and all.
So to open the bubbly
I walked out in the hall.
.
You signed for the room
I said, with a smile on my face.
I'm using the hall, so there
goes their case!
.
I opened the bottle
firmly holding the top.
But it flew from my hand
with a very loud POP!
.
The cork with a bang
flew straight through the air...
while the wine hit the rug
and splattered the chairs.
.
Don't worry I whispered
as her face filled with gloom.
See? I damaged the hallway
without hitting the room!
.
We quickly cleaned up
the best we were able.
Then we checked out the kitchen
and took treats from the table.
.
Yes, it was a great day
as we knew it would be.
I'll just be more cautious
'til the end of day three!

You clever girl, you. Well done.
I'm looking forward to the sequel...the case of the lost key!
Hey, my name is attached to that card as well. I think I'm safe.
Bob
