I heard from my son today

from the mail on my computer.

When he writes, he begins 'Hi Ma'

and no words are ever sweeter.

He thanked me for the tuppence

I sent to help him live

in the country I want him home from,

but when he needs his 'Ma'... I give.

I want you to be happy son,

but I always have this fear.

That you'll settle down in China

and not build your home back here.

You have a niece I know you love,

so don't miss her as she grows.

The pictures help, but are second best

to kissing that little nose.

She offers something new each day

and she'll melt you with her smile.

So think of her son, and please come home

and stay with us awhile.

I know you're smart and you can tell

that I am using bribes....

But I don't care as I'm your mom

and I'll do more than that besides!

Now if it's the rice you love that keeps you there

as your sister has implied..

I'll buy a cookbook just on rice

and serve it boiled, spiced or fried.

I'll serve it to you cooked...

or I'll serve it to you raw...

I'll serve it to you every day

from Winter through to Fall.

Is that enough Son?

I hope it is,

now you can come on

home.

I'll collect you at the airport,

You just have to phone.
